The hills are alive...

Tonight was another session of hill repeats at Lock & Dam #1.  We were given the goal of doing 6-8 repeats and so I did 8 with Mercedes (my fantastic new running partner).

Last Saturday's run was tough but overall really great.  I was responsible for providing one of the water stops (since I'm a mentor), and so I was very thankful that Steve was willing to help out.  We were running around Lake Nokomis and then out towards Minnehaha Falls.

When we started our run around Nokomis, I realized I was getting caught up with a bunch of runners that have a much faster pace than me and that I needed to slow down. This has been a fairly common occurrence this season because there seems to be a larger proportion of participants training for the half marathon and those that are training for the full are just plain faster than me.  In the first couple team trainings I tried keeping up with these people but I've realized that I can't sustain that level of exertion for the entire full marathon.

I ended up running and talking with another TNT participant, Mercedes, and figured out that we have a very similar pace.  Mercedes is also training for the Nike Women's full marathon and so she became my running partner for the whole 9 miles on Saturday.  If I hadn't been running with her, I probably would have turned around at the 8 mile mark and overall the run would have felt much more difficult.  But running with Mercedes, the run really didn't seem that bad.  We are officially running buddies and she even signed up to TCM with me too!
